About Literacy Reading Academy

My name is Melisa Liberto and I am the owner and facilitator of the Literacy & Reading Academy.

I believe strongly and firmly that every single person can be taught to read. Furthermore, I believe it is my calling and purpose to bring literacy to as many children as possible.  Building the foundations for successful reading and literacy should begin as early as possible, there is no child too young to begin a structured literacy program.

I earned a B.A. in English with a focus in grammar from The Masters University in 2005. I then received my M.A. in English with a concentration in literature from California State University of Northridge in 2007. I then went on to complete a full IDA Orton Gillingham structured literacy program and practicum in 2022, as well as my NILD Educational Therapy License 1 in 2024. I have worked at all levels of education for the last 18 years, with a interim period when I stayed at home to have my children.

I began my educational career teaching English to junior high and high school. After some time, I moved over to universities and worked on both the educational and administrative side. Once all my children were school aged, I returned to the educational world and began a journey in elementary school. This quickly led to re-enrolling in more graduate programs myself, as I saw a tremendous need for structured literacy remediation and educational therapy.

I have worked at the university level, the secondary junior high/high school level, the elementary school level, and I am currently working as an educational therapist for a private Christian school in Santa Clarita.

I started this academy in January of 2023 to help support parents who are unable to give their kids the tools they need for proper intervention and are seeking a highly trained, certified educator to help bridge the learning gap.
